Walk With Me
About two years ago, I went on a mission trip to Cape Town, South Africa. For a month, I worked in a township and cared for battered women and children at a local shelter. The experience was life changing, to say the very least.
Even though it was two years ago, one woman's story still stays with me. Hers is a story worth remembering.
Her name was Henrietta. She was abused, but she found the strength to leave. Sometimes, the hardest thing to do is put one foot in front of the other. Especially when you don't know where the road is going to lead you.
And this was the circumstance of Henrietta. She left quickly, abruptly. Without any shoes on her feet. But when she found the strength to leave, she left with nothing to stop her.
The day I'd met her, she'd traveled 7 miles, barefoot to our shelter. I can't say I've even walked outside to get the mail without my shoes on. I'll never forget the site of her swollen, cracked feet and the pain she was in for days after her journey. Soon after my trip, I wrote the song, Walk With Me, about Henrietta's struggle and strength.
When I was ready to release the song, I wanted to tie it with a greater cause than my own gain. And this is when I learned about Soles4Souls. Soles4Souls is a Nashville - based non profit that brings new and gently used shoes to people in need all over the world. They've reached over 16 million people in just the 5 years they have been in operation.
So in honor of Henrietta and her journey, I'm releasing my next single, Walk With Me, as a benefit to Soles4Souls. For every Walk With Me download, a pair of shoes will be donated to someone who needs them. I'll also be hosting a writer's night to benefit Soles4Souls Thursday, March 1st at 8pm. Admission is free but I am asking folks to donate a dollar towards a pair of shoes or to donate a pair of their own gently used shoes so that someone in need can use them.
